Where does your counselling take place?
I am based in Ansdell and Fairhaven and offer a secure and confidential environment for counselling.
How long are the sessions?
Sessions take place once a week and are 50 minutes in length. The number of sessions varies according to your own needs and what you want to get out of the counselling. NHS counselling funding normally covers 6 sessions, but can sometimes be extended under some circumstances. Private counselling is more flexible, but the lead will come from you on the number of sessions as the counselling progresses, either to finish earlier or to carry on further.
Are you a member of a professional body?
Yes. I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. As such I work in accordance with the BACP ethical framework; you can find out more about this by visiting the BACP website. www.bacp.co.uk . The BACP is the largest professional body in the UK covering counselling and psychotherapy.
Is the counselling confidential?
Yes. All sessions and everything talked about within the sessions is confidential. However there are two important exceptions which will be explained in the first session. In the initial session, I will explain about counselling and hopefully answer any further questions you may have.
What are the differences between NHS-funded or private counselling?
There are no differences to the actual counselling and most counsellors may carry out work for an agency, charity or the NHS. With private counselling you get to choose the type of counselling you want and the therapist you feel best suits your needs. With private counselling there will be more flexibility with the length of time counselling is for, usually no waiting times of two to six months as with the NHS, you can usually see a private counsellor within a week and there is also the cost of paying for private counselling.
How much does it cost?
The charge is £45 per session. Payment will be made at the beginning of each session, and can be in cash or by cheque.
Cancellations: I also charge a cancellation cost of £10 per session if there has been less than 48 hours’ notice: this is to help towards the cost of the room reservation.
